Marcy L. Koontz. Ph.D. is an educator who is actively engaged in her community, and for the last three years has been exploring the scholarship of engagement in higher education.

Jamie Cicatiello

Jamie Cicatiello, a native of Tuscaloosa, spent much of her early life in Bandon, Oregon. After graduating high school she returned to Tuscaloosa to attend The University of Alabama and graduated in 2000, with a degree in Human Development and a minor in photojournalism .

Hunter Rayfield graduated from The University of Alabama in 2010 with a degree in Environmental Science from the College of Arts and Sciences.

Roger Lewis, a graduate of The University of Alabama´s College of Commerce and Business Administration, is the owner of Lewis Bamboo, Inc. located in Oakman, Alabama.

A rhizome grows horizontally underground. Each cane stays connected to one another through the plant's rhizome network, causing a grove of bamboo to be one single plant.

Bamboo plants grow by sending up new shoots each spring from rhizome buds. A bamboo shoot usually reaches its full height in two to four weeks and then begins to branch out. As the branches emerge, the cane hardens and becomes woody and flexible.

A grove is a small wood or group of trees growing close together.
